UEFA readies delegates and agenda for 9th medical symposium

January 22 – UEFA will hold its ninth medical symposium in Lugano, Switzerland, February 4-6 with a focus on the evolution of football medicine in the women’s game.

UEFA said the event is open to anyone interested in footballers’ health and well-being. The focus on the women’s game comes in advance of the Women’s Euros to be held in Switzerland this summer.

“The programme covers recent advances in this specialist field that underline the vital role of football medicine in protecting players’ health and well-being,” said UEFA.

The agenda is a mix of plenary and parallel sessions designed to support the needs of medical doctors and physiotherapists. Each session will have a strong emphasis on providing practical information that participants can apply in their day-to-day work.

Also scheduled are Q&A and round-table events that will encourage participants to ask questions and share their own experiences.

UEFA hosts its medical symposium every two years with participants including team doctors representing all 55 UEFA member associations, as well as doctors from European clubs participating in UEFA’s elite club injury study. Each association has also been asked to send a physiotherapist.

The last symposium in 2023, held at the German Football Association (DFB) campus in Frankfurt, attracted 400 football medical experts from across Europe.

Delegate passes coast CHF 750 in advance, with on-site registration costing CHF 900. Students are eligible for a 50% discount.
