Jan transfer window smashed previous record high by 47%

February 10 – The January 2025 transfer window broke multiple records in both men’s and women’s football, according to FIFA’s International Transfer Snapshot report released at the end of last week.

In the men’s professional game there were a record 5,863 total transfers (+19.1%) with an accumulated value of $2.35 billion (57.9% higher than January 2024 and 47.1% higher than the previous record from January 2023). .

English clubs topped the spending with $621.6m on transfer fees, followed by German clubs ($295.7 million), Italy ($223.8 million), France ($209.7 million) and Saudi Arabia ($202.1m).

French clubs received the highest amount in transfer fees ($371 million), followed by clubs in Germany ($226.2 million), England ($185.2 million), Portugal ($176.4 million) and Italy ($162 million).

Vitor Reis – Palmeiras to Manchester City – €37m

Santiago Gimenez – Feyenoord to AC Milan – €32m

The FIFA snapshot highlights Brazil as having the most incoming transfers (471), followed by Argentina (265), Portugal (207), Spain (200) and England (190). The country with the highest number of outgoing transfers was Argentina (255), with Brazil (212), England (211), the United States (188) and Portugal (170) rounding out the top five.

New records were also set in the women’s game with $5.8 million spent on transfer fees (+180.6%) and a total of 455 international transfers in the January transfer window.

English clubs were the top spenders at $2.3 million. The transfer of US international Naomi Girma from San Diego Wave to Chelsea is the first $1 million fee paid for a female player.
