February 11 – Philippe Clement has vowed not to resign as Rangers manager following one of the greatest upsets in the history of Scottish football.
Clement’s team, playing at home, were dumped out of the Scottish Cup by lowly Championship side Queen’s Park in dramatic fashion at the weekend.
Shocks of this magnitude, unlike in England, are extremely rare in Scotland where the gap is huge between the two Glasgow giants and the rest, many of whom are part-time.
But the Belgian has vowed to stay in the job after one of the most embarrassing results in Rangers history.
Seb Drozd struck in the second-half with the visitors’ only attempt on goal during the match. The Gers had a golden chance to level in the final seconds of the game, but James Tavernier’s penalty was sensationally saved by Calum Ferrie.
Asked if he would resign after the 1-0 defeat, Clement said: “No, totally not. We had these talks the last couple of months about building up something new. A few weeks ago, or last week, everybody sees the evolution the club are making.
“So again, out of emotion, taking decisions and turning everything around, I don’t think this is what this club needs. I understand that the fans are emotional right now. I totally understand that because I’m also angry and frustrated about that, about this result and going out of the cup because it was one of our big goals and our surest chance to go to win a trophy this season.“
