LaLiga calls out Real Madrid over claims of ‘biased refs’ ‘manipulating’ games

February 12 – LaLiga has stepped up its ongoing war with Real Madrid by lodging a formal complaint with the Disciplinary Committee of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) in response to the club’s open letter condemning the current refereeing system as “completely discredited” and vulnerable to “manipulation and tampering”.

La Liga boss Javier Tebas made the announcement after a meeting with all leading clubs except Madrid.

The dispute stems from Real claiming that “Spanish officiating system is completely biased”. Spanish media reports suggest that once the La Liga complaint is received, Real will be asked to submit allegations and evidence formally, initiating an investigation. If a case is formally opened, it could lead to sanctions.

The Real letter followed their 1-0 defeat against Espanyol when the club questioned the integrity of the competition following a bad foul on Kylian Mbappe that didn’t result in a straight red card.  Additionally, officials disallowed a goal from Vinícius Júnior.

In response, Tebas accused Real Madrid of having “lost their heads”, asserting that the club had fostered a narrative of victimisation.
