Concacaf nations prepare for make-or-break 2025 Gold Cup prelims

February 13 – The March schedule for the 14 teams that will play-off for the final seven berths at the Concacaf Gold Cup 2025 later this summer has been announced.

Games will be played March 21 and March 25, with the highest ranked team having the advantage of playing their second leg at home.

A number of the confederations perennial Gold Cup qualifiers have still to secure their spot at the finals, including Costa Rica, Jamaica and Honduras. They play Belize, St Viincent and Grenadines and Bermuda respectively and although all three will be expected to qualify on form, this Gold Cup 2025 qualification, based on match-ups determined by Nations League results, have seen upward mobility from a number of nations challenging the old order.

The 16-team finals will be played from June 14 to July 6, across 14 stadiums in 11 metropolitan areas of the United States and Canada., predominantly located on the West coast of the US though with incursions into the central US and a final in Houston.

FIFA is playing its Club World Cup at the same time and it was initially expected to be focussed on the East coast, though FIFA have changed the parameters of that gentleman’s agreement and have programmed CWC games on the West coast directly against Concacaf’s Gold Cup group games. FIFA is struggling to sell tickets to its Club World Cup though Concacaf’s Gold Cup ticket sales have grown significantly over the past two editions with Mexican and Central American fans filling stadia to support their home nations.

To date eight Conacacaf nations have booked their places – Canada, Curaçao, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Haiti, Mexico, Panama, and the United States. Saudi Arabia will play as a guest.

The draw for groups and venue placements will be held in April.
