Stake.com lose license but Everton keeping shirt sponsorship, for now

February 14 – Goodison Park was at the epicenter of a wonderous derby match versus Liverpool on Wednesday, but it was back to business on Thursday for Everton as their front-of-shirt sponsor was confirmed as having to give up its betting license in Great Britain.

Stake.com who adorn the blue shirts of the Merseysiders had their logo on a social media video shot outside Nottingham Trent University where porn actress Bonnie Blue said she was there “as promised” to “sleep with 180 barely-legal 18 years olds”.

The culture secretary was urged to take action over the advert for using sexual content to encourage young people to gamble.

The Gambling Commission will warn Everton of its responsibilities to ensure that unlicensed gambling websites promoted on shirts cannot be accessed from Great Britain.

Stake.com is an Australian online site, and has decided to exit Great Britain after the Gambling Commission started its investigation. The company calls itself the “world’s leading cryptocurrency casino ad sportsbook.”

Premier League clubs have agreed that from the end of the 2025-26 season they will no longer allow gambling companies to be the main shirt sponsor, however, gambling ads will still appear on shirt sleeves and digital advertising hoardings.

Everton have no plans to remove Stake from the front of their shirts until the agreement comes into effect.
