February 17 – The defending Major League Soccer (MLS) champions, the Los Angeles Galaxy have just signed a sponsorship agreement with the Royal Bank of Canada (RBC), and its LA based subsidiary City National Bank (CNB).
The deal will see the Galaxy wear the RBC logo on their right jersey sleeve along with CNB serving as the team’s official bank and wealth management partner.
While no cash figure was revealed for the partnership, most deals of this nature in MLS are valued in the $1-2 million range. As the current champions, the Galaxy will certainly be looking at the higher end of that number.
CNB were previously partners with the Galaxy when the club was in its David Beckham pomp winning three MLS Cup titles in 2011, 2012, and 2014.
RBC is replacing the online coupon app, Honey, for sleeve visibility.
Currently, the team have a bank and wealth management category in the form of, Kinecta Federal Credit Union, who will remain a partner but in a different environment within the club.
As well as having a presence at the home of the Galaxy, Dignity Health Sports Park, RBC will be featured at the LA Galaxy Soccer Center, a 73,000-square-foot facility located in nearby Torrance. This facility is dedicated to futsal and other recreational activities.
With the US and Canada currently going through some political turmoil, RBC will be hoping that the brand has success on the pitch and not become a distraction for the bank or the team.
