LaLiga continues piracy crusade

February 18 – LaLiga has continued its aggressive stance against piracy, successfully blocking another two illegal streaming platforms.

DazcFutbolios and RBTV77 were broadcasting football matches without authorisation and held over 400,000 unique monthly users in Spain. They operated through websites and apps, allegedly using Cloudflare’s infrastructure to disguise their illicit activities behind legitimate domains and avoid detection.

LaLiga says the takedown is part of its long-standing commitment to protecting intellectual property and cracking down on audiovisual fraud. The operation, executed during Matchdays 24 and 27 of LaLiga EA Sports and LaLiga HyperMotion, utilised dynamic blocking measures targeting specific IP addresses linked to pirated services.

These are just the latest in a series of actions taken to tackle illegal streaming, with LaLiga emphasising that it aims for precision in its efforts rather than large-scale, indiscriminate blocking.

This latest success builds on LaLiga’s ongoing efforts in the fight against piracy. In 2022, the league took down over 40 illegal streaming sites and IPTV services, further demonstrating its commitment to safeguarding the financial stability and integrity of the game.

The consistent enforcement of its intellectual property rights has been a cornerstone of LaLiga’s strategy, as it works closely with telecom providers to identify and shut down pirated content.

Once again, the league didn’t mince words when it came to Cloudflare, accusing the tech company of knowingly protecting criminal organisations for profit.

It’s not the first time LaLiga has called out Cloudflare’s role in enabling piracy, and unless something changes, it likely won’t be the last.

While the fight against illegal streaming is an endless game of cat and mouse, LaLiga has shown that it still has plenty of moves left to play. For the pirates, though, the final whistle might be coming sooner than they think.
