March 5 – Vico Zeljković, president of the Football Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (FBiH), has promised that in the next 30 days the FBiH leadership will choose a location for the construction of a new national stadium.
Zelković’s (pictured rights) promise came after a meeting with UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin (pictured left) in Sarajevo where they discussed infrastructure projects, hybrid and artificial turf pitches, as well as the construction of a training centre and a hotel in Sarajevo. The meeting also discussed the European Women’s Under-19 Championship to be held in Bosnia and Herzegovina in 2026.
Čeferin was in the Bosnian capital to meet with the presidents and representatives of 12 south-eastern Europe football associations. He was joined by UEFA director of National Associations Zoran Laković, and the presidents and representatives of the Balkan football associations from Turkey, Greece, Romania, Bulgaria, Albania, Serbia, Croatia, Slovenia, Montenegro, Kosovo and Cyprus.
“The most important thing is the infrastructure, which is being worked on well, but more is needed. Bosnia and Herzegovina, like all the countries in the region, should have a national stadium. We will help as much as we can. Vico (Vico Zeljković) has my mobile phone number and can call me 24 hours a day, we are always ready to help. As a man from the region and from a small country, I think I understand the problems of small countries in football well and cooperation is even easier”, said Čeferin.
Zeljković said that the goal of the FBiH is to build a national stadium and that they will try to make a decision about the location in the next month.
“The first wish is for the stadium to be in Sarajevo. We are trying to solve the location problem, we haven’t succeeded yet, but we have a possibility in Zenica and thank you for waiting for us. In the next 30 days, we will have to close this story and if something does not happen in Sarajevo, we will go to Zenica,” said Zeljković.
“This is a very important meeting. It is important that associations of similar size cooperate for the future, that they are united in UEFA and that gives them strength,” concluded Ceferin.
