ECA looks to reinforce EU links following Executive Committee and Board meetings

March 20 – European Club Association (ECA) has concluded its first Executive Committee and Board Meetings of the year and reinforced its commitment to strengthening ties with key European Union (EU) institutions.

During the meetings in Brussels, ECA Chairman Nasser Al-Khelaïfi and ECA Board Members hosted European Commissioner for Intergenerational Fairness, Youth, Culture and Sport Glenn Micallef.

The aim of the meetings was to focus on fostering greater collaboration between the parties and ensuring the views and priorities of clubs are consistently represented.

Following an announcement last week, the commercial partnership between UEFA and the ECA on one side and Relevent Sports on the other was also discussed by the Board.

“The deal demonstrates the strong partnership between ECA and UEFA, ensuring revenues from the UEFA men’s club competitions will continue to benefit all 745 ECA Member Clubs,” the ECA said in a statement.

“It will drive innovation and enhance the global reach of the competitions, boosting their commercial growth prospects and supporting the long-term financial stability of European football.”

ECA vice-chair Jan-Christian Dreesen, CEO of FC Bayern Munich, said the two-day meeting “emphatically underlined the power that the ECA generates as a strong voice for European clubs. We’re being heard – not just by UEFA and FIFA, but also by politicians.”
