Macedonia FA to donate Wales ticket money top Kocani fire victims

March 24 – The Football Federation of North Macedonia (FFM) is to donate all proceeds from ticket sales for Tuesday’s World Cup qualifier against Wales.

The money raised will go to the victims and families of the 59 children and teenagers who died in a nightclub fire in Kocani. As a result of the tragedy, in which local Shkupi footballer, Andrej Lazarov, also died, all sporting events in the country were cancelled.

The news was announced by FFM President Masar Omeragic after North Macedonia’s 3-0 win over Liechtenstein at the weekend.

The Group J match between North Macedonia and Wales will be played at the 33,000-capacity Tose Proeski National Stadium in Skopje. The most expensive ticket for Tuesday’s match costs €6.50.

“I want to congratulate our football players from the bottom of my heart for the victory, character and fighting spirit,” said Omeragic.

“This is a victory they deserved – the players, the coaching staff and our fans, who once again showed that they are the best in the world. Thanks to all.

“In these difficult moments, our thoughts are with the families of those affected in the great tragedy in which many young people lost their lives.

“As a sign of support and solidarity, I would like to announce that the ticket revenue for our next game against Wales will be donated to the injured and the families of the dead.

“This is a time when football shows that it is more than a game – football and the national team unite and help,” said Omeragic.
