April 9 – The draw for the semi-finals of the inaugural Concacaf W Champions Cup will see two Mexico vs USA match-ups with Tigres Femenil to play Thorns FC and America Femenil to meet Gotham FC.
The semi-finals, plus the third place play-off and final will be played as a final four at the iconic Estadio Universitario in Nuevo León, Monterrey, Mexico, on May 21 and 24.
The winner will qualify for the new 2026 FIFA Women’s Champions Cup and 2028 FIFA Women’s Club World Cup.
The FIFA Women’s Champions Cup will be played annually beginning with its first edition in January 2026 – it won’t be played in the years when the quadrennial Women’s Club World Cup will be played. The host for the first Champions Cup – that will consist of six matches featuring the champions of all six confederations – has still to be announced.
The full Club World Cup will debut in January-February 2028 – hosts still to be announced. The finals will have 19 teams, beginning with a play-in stage in which six clubs, one from each confederation, will compete. The three winners will advance to the group stage, joining 13 other clubs that advanced directly.
Concacaf, along with AFC, CAF, and Conmebol each have two direct slots to the group stage, while UEFA will have five.
The Concacaf W Champions Cup, launched last year, sees 11 of the best clubs from North America, Central America, and the Caribbean kicking off in August of 2024 with a single-leg Play-In in which Vancouver Whitecaps FC (CAN) defeated Alianza Women FC (SLV) 1-0.
The Group Stage saw 10 clubs—three from NWSL (United States), three from Liga MX (Mexico), and one from each of the domestic leagues of Canada, Costa Rica, Jamaica, and Panama—divided into two groups of five clubs each, with each club playing every club in their group once. The five-week Group Stage took place from late August to mid-October 2024. The top two teams in each group advancing to the final four.
