April 10 – Betting operator Superbet has become the new title sponsor of Brazil’s second division, the Série B.
The competition is run by the Confederation of Brazilian Football (CBF), with the terms of the deal not disclosed.
Superbet CEO Alexandre Fonseca said: “We want to further boost the entire football ecosystem and Série B plays an essential role in the development of Brazilian sport.”
Superbet also sponsors six state championships, including that of Rio de Janeiro, and recently announced a renewal of their sponsorship deal with Sao Paulo, which will now run until 2030 when the top flight club celebrate their centenary. The deal, including bonuses, could be worth as much as $1billion reais (€153 million).
Last year, Brazil liberalised its gambling legislation, but bookmakers require a Brazilian license to operate in the country. In the first quarter of this year, up to 30 billion reais (€4.6billion) circulated in the Brazilian betting markets according to statistics from the country’s central bank.
