April 15 – English Premier League clubs continue to spend millions on agent fees and, for the second consecutive year, Chelsea have topped the list.
The news follows figures released by the Football Association (FA) annually detailing the net amount paid to agents across the top five divisions of men’s football, along with the top two tiers of the women’s game.
From 2 February 2024 to 3 February 2025, Chelsea spent over £60million on agent fees. On the positive side for the Stamford Bridge club, this represents a £15.1m reduction from the previous year when they spent a staggering £75.1m as the club embarked on an unprecedented buying spree.
In total, the 20 Premier League teams spent a combined £409.1m, equivalent to almost nine Vinicius Juniors, or four Declan Rice’s.
Manchester City claimed second place, parting with £52m, while their neighbours Manchester United rounded out the top three with an outlay of £33m. At the lower end of the scale, relegation-threatened Ipswich Town spent a comparatively modest £6.2m.
In the Championship, Leeds United were the biggest spenders by far with £18.8m finding its way into agents’ pockets. Overall, the league below the Premier League combined for £63.2m in agent fees.
In the Women’s Super League, Chelsea were again the highest spender, though their £622,604 almost feels like loose change found in the sofa cushions of Blues owner Todd Boehly. Overall, the 12 WSL clubs combined to pay agents £2.1m.
