Everton’s Bramley Moore Dock stadium sold out within hours for Rugby league Ashes test

April 15 – Much has been written about Everton’s agonising financial journey over the past three years to new American owners. At the centre of that financial travelogue has been the progress of the club’s £750 million+ new Bramley Moore Dock Stadium.

The 52,888-seat stadium will be fully open for the start of the 2025/26 Premier League season, and already it is selling out non-football events.

The Rugby Football League (the 13-a-side rugby code), has announced that it has filled the stadium for an Ashes test match against Australia on November 1.

The final batch of general admission tickets were sold out within an hour of going on sale on Monday morning.

The test match at the Bramley Moore Dock Stadium is the second in the three-match series and renews Rugby League’s oldest national team rivalry after a gap of 22 years since the last Ashes series was played. The first series was played in 1908.

Rugby League’s home in the north of England has generally been Manchester United’s Old Trafford, that staged the 2022 World Cup final.

While Liverpool doesn’t boast a top tier Rugby League team – Manchester has a few – Everton will bask in getting one over on their noisy Mancunian neighbours when it showcases its shiny new stadium to rugby league faithful in November.
