Nutrition is focus of second model of UEFA’s Take Care initiative

April 16 – UEFA has launched the second module of its Take Care campaign, with a focus on nutrition, continuing its initiative to harness the power of football to promote healthier lifestyles and positive habits across society.

The Take Care programme, announced in February, is a flagship component of UEFA’s health and well-being policy—one of the 11 pillars of the UEFA Football Sustainability Strategy 2030. The initiative aims to use football’s widespread influence to encourage better health outcomes, particularly among children and young people, by supporting national associations, leagues, clubs, schools and other football stakeholders.

The programme is structured around six key lifestyle topics to be rolled out across 2025: physical activity, nutrition, mental health, digital addiction, substance awareness, and road safety.

The second module materials are tailored to assist ‘influential community figures’ – such as parents, caregivers, teachers, coaches, and club staff – in promoting healthy eating habits and nutritional awareness as part of everyday life.

UEFA launched the campaign with a high-level panel discussion at its headquarters in Nyon, featuring UEFA EURO 2016 winner Nani, Swiss women’s national team head coach Pia Sundhage, and Valter Di Salvo, Director of Football Performance and Science at Aspire Academy. The panel highlighted football’s capacity to drive social impact and reinforce healthy behavioural change across all age groups.

“In today’s fast-paced world, our physical and mental well-being face numerous challenges and risks on a daily basis that can have a harmful impact on both ourselves and those around us. Football can serve as an antidote, offering a unique way to help restore balance both on and off the pitch by promoting and encouraging healthier lifestyles. UEFA believes in the power and responsibility of football to inform and raise awareness, and the Take Care programme is a key part of that,” said Michele Uva, UEFA social and environmental sustainability director, at the programme’s unveiling in February.
