April 29 – CONMEBOL has confirmed that the Peruvian capital Lima will stage the final of the 2025 Copa Libertadores in November.
The showpiece event was last hosted in Lima back in 2019, and CONMEBOL president Alejandro Domínguez confirmed on his Instagram account that the final would be returning to the City of the Kings.
CONMEBOL, however, did not confirm the venue, but the final will be played on 29 November. In 2019, Lima stepped in at the last minute after the South American confederation shifted the final away from the Estadio Nacional in Santiago, Chile, because of social unrest.
Estadio Momumental hosted Flamengo and River Plate in a final that went down to the wire with striker Gabriel Barbosa notching a late brace to clinch a dramatic 2-1 victory for the Rio club.
Since that afternoon in the Peruvian capital, the Maracanã in Brazil has staged the final twice, with the Estadio Centenario in Montevideo, Uruguay, the Estadio Monumental Isidro Romero Carbo in Guayaquil and the Estadio Monumental in Buenos Aires, Argentina. serving as the other venues for the final.
The last five finals have been all-Brazilian affairs. Botafogo are the defending champions but are running the risk of exiting the competition in the group stages this time out.
