December 2 – Nancy will not be hosting games during the 2016 European Championships after the French city was unable to find agree a deal to renovate the Marcel Picot Stadium.
Andre Rossinot, the President of the Urban Committee of the north eastern city, said: “We have given up on Euro 2016 and the renovation of the Marcel Picot stadium.”
Games will be taking place in Paris, Bordeaux, Marseille, Lyon, Lille, Nice, Lens, St. Etienne, Toulouse and St Denis.
A number of stadiums are either being built or renovated, with Lille and Olympique Lyonnais both planning to move into new grounds in the coming years.
Marseille’s Stade Velodrome is one of a number of existing venues currently undergoing work to upgrade them for the competition in four and a half years’ time.
France 2016 will be the first time that the competition includes 24 teams in the finals, and the organisation of the tournament was praised earlier this week by UEFA President Michel Platini.
