CONCACAF opens second regional office in Guatemala

July 14 – North, Central America and Caribbean confederation has opened a second regional office in Guatemala City, Guatemala. This follows the opening of a regional office in Kingston, Jamaica in May.

The office in Guatemala will “streamline” operations in the Central America region as well lead development initiatives. CONCACAF says it “is increasing its investment by three times more in tournaments held in Central America compared to previous years.”

While the office in Jamaica had former Jamaican FA official Horace Reid parachuted in from CONCACAF’s Miami headquarters to run the Caribbean business (no Caribbean Football Union executives have been included in the running of the office), the Central American hub looks to be more regionally collaborative.

Mario Monterrosa, who for more than 10 years has been General Secretary of the Central American Football Union (UNCAF), will head the office. He is also CONCACAF Central American Football Director.

“We have seen the game’s growth in Central America for the last 13 years. Our presence in Guatemala reflects the importance to continue investing in football in this region. It demonstrates our commitment to create a fully integrated organization, while supporting Member Associations,” said CONCACAF President Victor Montagliani. “As part of our ONE CONCACAF Vision, we plan to work closely with key stakeholders on programs focused on raising the game’s level as well as expanding the opportunities for players, coaches, and administrators.”
