August 1 – Portugal and Real Madrid social media machine Ronaldo has taken his digital immersion a step further buying a majority ownership position in Portuguese digital agency Thing Pink.
The agency will change its name to 7EGEND and has already created a presence for the new brand name on Instagram and Facebook, as well as having a holding web page at www.7egend.cr
It is unclear how much Ronaldo paid for the agency or how much of it he owns. However, it is clear the agency will trade heavily on the back of the world football’s highest profile player who has more than 120 million Likes on Facebook and more than 22 million followers on Twitter.
The new name is a combination of the word “legend” and the shirt number that Ronaldo has worn through the majority of his playing career.
Thing Pink is headed by Luis Parafita and has become one of Portugal’s leading digital agencies having developed smartphone apps for McDonald’s, FNAC and Futebol Clube do Porto and worked with a number of major brands including LG Electronics, Microsoft, Puma, Samsung, and Vodafone.
The agency already has a relationship with Ronaldo having developed the digital component of the CR7 museum in Funchal, Madeira – Ronaldo’s home island. This included an augmented reality (AR) experience designed which allows visitors to use the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 to interact with a number of exhibits.
The rebranded agency says that the new ownership will not affect work it is already carrying out for clients and extending those relationships. The company says it will develop new tech products under its own brand, presumably trading in on the pulling power that Ronaldo brings.
