August 28 – After three rounds of Premier League fixtures more 1 million tickets have been sold for 30 matches with 71,420 seats unfilled.
Round 3 saw Newcastle United’s St James Park packed at over 99% capacity for the second time this season. Having had a season in the Championship, Newcastle fans are relishing being back in the Premier League with attendances levels currently outstripping their 2015/16 season in the Premier League by more than 12%.
Newcastle, Chelsea and Manchester United all reported capacities of more than 99% full. The top eight teams in the table reported more than 90%.
West Brom had a poor weekend with a capacity of 84.56% full and 4,416 seats unfilled. A worrying number for the club and its new Chinese owners, though rumours are that the Chinese are already looking for an exit.
Spurs came bottom of the table with just 75% of Wembley’s capacity full for the visit of Burnley. Last week Spurs had 16,413 unfilled seats for the visit of Chelsea, though the tickets were on restricted sale due to the potential security risk. This meant the club could only sell tickets to those on the members list and database, hence why they struggled to reach full capacity.
The same restrictions look like they were in place for the visit of Burnley, though having only won two of their last 12 matches at Wembley, Spurs fans are so far not enjoying the experience.
Insideworldfootball attendance figures are taken from the official reported match attendance and the official stadium capacities. No account is taken for any seat kills due to media or safety requirements.
