UEFA deny Ceferin wants PSG kicked out, but investigation is open and money talks

By Andrew Warshaw

September 12 – UEFA have been quick to deny suggestions that its president Aleksander Ceferin wants to throw Paris St Germain out of Europe over alleged lack of financial fair play compliance.

According to l’Equipe, Ceferin privately raised the possibility of excluding PSG when he met with officials from the European Club Association during their annual assembly in Geneva last week.

Ceferin was quoted as telling ECA members: “If I want to be as popular as (predecessor) Michel (Platini who conceived FFP) I know I have to exclude the PSG from European competition. We will not be afraid to punish. Nobody is above the law.”

Spanish press reports now have UEFA denying any such  statements were made by its president even though the European body have already launched an investigation into the transfer dealings of Qatari-owned PSG who splashed out a world record €222 million on Neymar and took Kylian Mbappe on a season-long loan from Monaco with a view to a permanent move.

Ceferin is coming under mounting pressure to prevent FFP being abused but PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi has yet again insisted his club have not broken any rules.

“I am very confident. Nothing is hidden and UEFA can come to our offices,” he said. “We respect all the rules, and if other clubs are not happy, it’s not my problem.”
