Celtic get city go-ahead to build £18 million hotel and museum

September 29 – Glasgow’s city council has given the greenlight for Celtic to build an £18 million hotel and museum complex around Celtic Park.

The development would include a five-storey hotel, a restaurant and bar on the ground floor of the building, a new club shop, ticket centre as well as the creation of a club museum.

The plans would create more than 100 jobs in an area of the city that has been earmarked for regeneration.

The club received no objections to its plans. The club has three years to start the building work.

“We are very pleased that initial planning permission has been granted. Clearly, there is still considerable work to be done in bringing such an ambitious project to fruition,” said a club statement.

“However, we will now engage with other relevant parties to assess this potential development.”

As well as providing an economic boost to the area the new development will reduce congestion around the stadium, said the development’s planners Muir Smith Evans.
