November 30 – The English Football League (EFL) has signed airline Thai Airways as a new partner in a deal taking them to the end of the 2017/18 season and including the five finals (Carabao Cup plus the play-offs) that the league hosts at Wembley.
Thai Airways will have a digital and in stadia presence at each of the five EFL Finals. No figure was given for the sponsorship which will see the airline designated as an Official Supporter of the EFL.
Asia and Thailand in particular has become a good market for the EFL. The league held and Asian Summit in China last August while its Carabao Cup title partner is based in Thailand. New broadcast deals have been signed with Super Sports in China and MCOT in Thailand.
EFL chief executive, Shaun Harvey, said: “Asia is an increasingly important market for the EFL and our commercial partnerships are providing us with the opportunities to develop a strong footing in the region.
While this first deal is only until the end of the season, Thai Airways acting president Mrs. Usanee Sangsingkeo, suggested it is just a first step. “We are pleased to announce that Thai Airways is to be an Official Supporter of the EFL and see our partnership as a wonderful opportunity to connect with football fans. We very much look forward to strengthening our ties with England through this partnership.”
