French gear up with Volkswagen for a long journey in Russia and through to 2023

December 4 – The French Football Federation (FFF) have prolonged their commercial partnership with automotive manufacturer Volkswagen until June 2023.

In 2014 Volkswagen began their partnership with the FFF and the renewal is extensive: the German motor manufacturer will support the French men’s and women’s national team, but also offer backing to the various age groups that the FFF hones. Volkswagen will also be the premium sponsor of the French cup, the Coupe de France.

The new agreement also extends to amateur football. The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, but the original five-year agreement was believed to be worth around €4 million.

“We are delighted to extend this adventure with Volkswagen,” said the president of the FFF Noël Le Graët. “The renewal of this major partnership with one of the largest car manufacturers is great for the FFF as a whole.”

“We have established a very constructive relationship over time that has enabled us to finance means of transport for amateur clubs.

“Volkswagen France and its entire network are delighted to continue their engagement with the FFF and continue to showcase the most popular sport in France for their shared values: commitment, closeness and passion.”

France will be considered one of the favourites for the 2018 World Cup in Russia and Les Bleus were handed a favourable draw last Friday in Moscow. The French were paired alongside Australia, Peru and Denmark in Group C.

“Clearly, it could have been worse,” said the French boss. “We’ll have the time to analyse our opponents in friendly games. It gives us supplementary information which will allow us to make all necessary plans.

“We’ll set up friendlies that correspond with them. Last time, you were all unanimous in saying that it was a great draw, even certain players… it’s not going to happen just by clicking our fingers. We’re going to work on ourselves, on our opponents, and go to this World Cup with a lot of ambition.”
