February 9 – FIFA has increased the number of players that coaches can select in their initial World Cup squads from 30 to 35.
The Organising Committee for FIFA Competitions, chaired by UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin, made the announcement after a meeting at FIFA’s headquarters in Zurich.
The increase in initial squad size follows a team seminar around the World Cup draw in December when managers and coaches suggested amendments to the rules.
The change is subject to approval by the FIFA Council at their next meeting in Bogota, Colombia, on March 16, with a deadline of May 14 for squad lists to be submitted. The 23-man lists are due no later than June 4.
