LA given more time to prepare case for host city spot in United 2026 bid

February 14 – Los Angeles is being given more time to submit its bid to be one of the host cities for the 2026 World Cup.

Alex Comisar, spokesman for LA Mayor Eric Garcetti, says the United Bid Committee, which represents the USA-Mexico-Canada joint bid, has extended the deadline until later this month for Los Angeles to be part of the show.

Reports from LA say city bosses are uncomfortable about the financial risks related to staging games at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena

“I’m grateful to the United Bid Committee for giving us time to take a closer look, resolve this, and welcome the world to L.A. for the World Cup,” Garcetti said.

The United Bid Committee, which must submit its formal bid book in March, has invited 25 cities to apply to host games, of which 12 may ultimately be chosen. FIFA will select the host in June with Morocco the only other candidate.
