November 30 – The Mexican football federation (FMF), which has long been touring the US with its national team, has agreed a deal with the Dallas Cowboys, MLS’ FC Dallas, and the Dallas Sports Commission to make the AT&T Stadium its official home in the US four the next four year.
The Mexicans will play one game a season at the Arlington stadium with the first match taking place June 9, 2019, just before the start of the 2019 Concacaf Gold Cup.
The AT&T Stadium opened in 2009 and the Mexican national team have played there seven times, having only lost once, drawn once and winning five. Their last match there was against a 1-0 loss against Croatia as part of their 2018 US Tour in March. Croatia went on to become losing finalists at the Russia 2018 World Cup.
“With the Dallas Cowboys fan base in Mexico, and the Mexican National Team being one of the most popular teams here in North Texas, we are excited for the opportunity to host Mexico at AT&T Stadium for years to come,” said Jerry Jones Jr, owner of the NFL team. “We are thrilled to continue to engage these incredibly passionate fan bases with two premiere sports brands at one the best stadiums in the world.”
The partnership will see a number of initiatives to showcase the North Texas region and its soccer growth. In conjunction with the Dallas Sports Commission, Mexico will participate in local community initiatives geared towards growing the sport and promoting the region’s blooming Hispanic population (including a bilingual childhood reading program)
Year long events will be hosted throughout Dallas/Fort Worth area, culminating with a celebration of the sport and its culture at a fan-fest in downtown Dallas before each match
Cross promotional activity between the AT&T Stadium and the FMF will include integration of athlete messages into its annual Hispanic Heritage Celebration Dallas Cowboys game. FC Dallas will also get involved staging watch parties for out-of-market Mexican national team matches as well as participating in youth clinics and community initiatives.
