November 30 – FIFA have opened a regional office in South Africa to serve the interests of the 14 Council of Southern Africa Football Associations.
The office is being managed by David Fani (pictured)‚ former president of Botswana Football Association‚ and becomes FIFA’s second in Africa after Dakar‚ with a third in the pipeline in Addis Ababa.
Danny Jordaan, president of the South African FA, said the move would benefit the entire region.
“This office will help the associations in particular in accessing development funding‚” said Jordaan.
“From next year FIFA will have $5 million available for each national association. What that means is that you must develop sound developmental programmes and very often in the past only those associations with the ability to put proposal together were given funding.
“This office will provide that service. So it’s a huge opportunity for the region.”
