June 18 – The English Football Association is to fight its corner over disciplinary proceedings issued by UEFA relating to England fans’ behaviour during the 3-2 win over Sweden at the 2012 European Championship.
According to UEFA’s website the investigation surrounds an attempted pitch invasion at the end of the game, with the matter to be heard on Wednesday (June 20).
The BBC reports that the FA will submit written evidence to UEFA ahead of the hearing citing the official report from the UEFA match delegate which apparently described the behaviour of England fans as satisfactory.
They will also be critical of the stewarding at the match.
England’s second and third goals did result in around 20-30 fans surging forward towards the barriers but it is understood the FA will argue there was no intent to invade the pitch, simply supporters showing their exuberance.
