China’s veteran forward Yu Dabao sets new Asian Cup fastest scoring record

By Abdelaziz Abuhamar

January 15 – Chinese striker Yu Dabao has made AFC Asian Cup history by scoring the fastest goal-ever in the history of the continental tournament by a substitute.

China is leading Group C in the UAE 2019 Asian Cup and are meeting South Korea today in a decisive group encounter.

Dabao, 30 years-old, came off the bench against the Philippines to replace Gao Lin after 79 minutes. The veteran striker needed only 41 seconds to score his country’s third goal in the 3-0 victory with his first touch of the ball – a header from a corner.

Dabao who plays for Beijing Guoan in the Chinese Super League, beat South Korean Hwang Seok-Keun’s record. He scored Korea’s opening goal against Kuwait in the 1980 Asian Cup group stage encounter, reportedly one minute after coming on at half-time. Korea won 3-0.
