Champions League to make live broadcast debut with Goal on Twitter in SE Asia

February 12 – European Champions League football will be broadcast via football website Goal’s Twitter account in six markets in Asia with a mix of live matches and highlights packages.

It is a breakthrough football deal for the social media platform which will be the exclusive social media stream platform. Four games will be broadcast free to logged-in and logged-out users on Twitter on connected devices in Thailand, Philippines, Cambodia, and Laos via Goal’s Thai Twitter account @Goal_TH.

Highlights of all Round of 16 games will be made available to Twitter users in Thailand, Philippines, Cambodia, Laos, Singapore, Malaysia, and Brunei. Live and on-demand coverage of all the matches will also be streamed on the Goal website in the region.

The four live games will all kick of at 4am local time are: Tottenham Hotspur v Borussia Dortmund, February 14; Liverpool v Bayern Munich, February 20; Paris Saint-Germain v Manchester United, March 7; and Manchester City v Schalke 04, March13.

Maurizio Barbieri, Head of Sports Partnerships for Southeast Asia at Twitter, said: “Looking at the levels of conversation on Twitter, football fans in our region are some of the most engaged and passionate on the planet, so it’s fitting that the matches are being streamed in this way.”

No value was given for the rights acquisition which look likely to be the most exciting of the Round of 16 match-ups. James Dickens, Goal’s head of content, said: “This will allow as many fans as possible in Thailand, Cambodia, Laos and the Philippines to enjoy these high-stakes games between some of the best supported teams in the region.”
