February 25 – Germany and Russia are going head-to-head for the hosting of the 2021 Champions League finals with Munich and St Petersburg as the candidate cities.
Germany would host at Munich’s Arena München, a venue for the 2020 Euros that Germany will organise, while Russia have put forward their Saint Petersburg Stadium, a marquee venue during the 2018 World Cup.
UEFA received bids from nine member associations to host its club competition finals in 2021: Champions League, Europa League, Women’s Champions League and Super Cup.
The decision on the host for the men’s 2021 Champions League final will be made in September, the other hosting decisions will be made by UEFA’s executive committee on may 29. Sweden are the only bidder for the Women’s Champions League final, putting forward the Gamla Ullevi stadium in Gothenburg.
UEFA has also opened the bidding process for the 2022 and 2023 UEFA Champions League finals. The deadline for confirmation of intention to bid is March 22, with the decision on hosting to also be made in September 2019.
