August 2 – Élie Baup has denied charges of fraud relating to unemployment benefits he is alleged to have receieved while working for French television channel Canal+.
Although the new Olympique Marseille coach was charged earlier this summer, the news was only made public this week.
Speaking at the club’s training ground, La Commanderie, Baup (pictured above) said: “I had no intention to fraud.
“This is the reality.
“I trusted some law experts and advisors who led me into this…I am willing to pay some damages, even to give the whole money back.
“I’ll do whatever it takes.”
The coach allegedly received the money after he was fired as coach of Nantes in 2009.
Baup who guided Bordeaux to the Ligue 1 title in 1999, took over at Marseille earlier this summer following the departure of Didier Deschamps, who went on to coach the national team.
