April 2 – LaLiga’s Valencia will swap Adidas for Puma from next season in a €4 million a year kit deal that will run through to 2022.
The new Puma deal is understood to be double what Adidas were paying in a five-year deal. Puma were previously Valencia’s kit supplier from 1990-93.
“We are proud to be the new partner of Valencia CF, a club with a great tradition that has some of the most passionate fans,” said Johan Adamsson, Puma’s director of sports marketing and sports licensing.
“We are excited to work with the club to deliver premium performance products and support the club in their vision for the future.”
Puma announced last month it was taking over as Manchester City’s kit supplier in a 10-year £650 million deal. Other Puma clubs include AC Milan, Borussia Dortmund, Olympique de Marseille, Palmeiras and Club Deportivo Guadalajara (Chivas) in Mexico.
Valencia CF’s chairman, Anil Murthy, said the agreement between two companies demonstrated “their bravery, innovation, and ambition the driving forces that have guided us towards success against other competitors which are more powerful a priori. The union between tradition and trend, between a global vision for the future and that eternal sentiment that gives us the strength to never give up and always aim the highest with courage and determination runs in our DNA. With PUMA, we’ll keep growing to reach out to more fans worldwide.”
