April 24 – Senegal have had their legal complaint to CAF regarding alleged age cheating by Guinea at the ongoing under-17 African Nations Cup rejected.
Senegal, who failed to reach the last four in Tanzania, claimed they have evidence that two Guinea players forged their date of births to be eligible for the tournament. Both the implicated players featured when the Guineans beat Senegal 2-1 in a Group B match last week.
The two players, Aboubacar Conté and Ahmed Tidiane Keïta, were suspected of having changed their identity between a tournament hosted by Japan in 2017 and the current competition. But according to local reports, CAF has thrown out the complaint though no statement as such appears on the CAF website.
Age cheating has become the scourge of international tournaments hosted by CAF, which earlier this month prevented six players from competing in Tanzania after they failed MRI tests which determined their age and eligibility.
Cameroon were the most affected team with three players failing the tests, while hosts Tanzania had two and Guinea one. The tests were apparently carried out between 10-12 April.
Cameroon, Guinea, Nigeria and Angola all reached the last four in the competition but Morocco, like Senegal, are up in arms over Cameroon allegedly fielding other over-age players despite having had three banned from taking part.
