June 17 – With Jamaica hosting the first ever round of Gold Cup matches in the Caribbean today, Concacaf have taken the opportunity to run a series of ‘safeguarding’ professional development workshops in the run-up to the matches.
“Creating safe spaces for young people is a core focus for us all, while providing access to the beautiful game and ensuring that we can continue to educate as many coaches as possible. By contributing to these workshops Concacaf is ensuring that our Safeguarding Curriculum can be of further impact to Jamaica and the region at large,” said Jason Roberts, Concacaf director of development.
The workshops were run in conjunction with Jamaica’s University of Technology, the Jamaican Football Federation (JFF) and the JMMB Joan Duncan Foundation. Titled ‘Safeguarding Our Children In Sport’, the workshops were open to JFF certified coaches.
The workshops focus on educating coaches on appropriate ethical practices to safeguard children in their care, as well as safeguarding themselves in professional practice. They are a continuation of the JFF’s coaching education programme.
The workshops began on Saturday, June 1 in Spanish Town, Jamaica, and finished on June 14, giving everyone plenty of time to get to the Gold Cup matches at the National Stadium.
