Osasuna members force club to rethink Kirolbet shirt sponsorship

October 30 – LaLiga’s Osasuna will meet with betting firm Kirolbet who hold the club’s main shirt sponsorship to discuss the possibility of terminating the contract early. The current contract ends in 2021.

Club president Luis Sabalza made the pledge at Osasuna’s  Ordinary General Assembly at the weekend after a number of speakers took the floor to express dissatisfaction over the club’s main sponsor being a bookmaker.

“The contract with Kirolbet ends in 2021. If the assembly so wishes, we will dialogue with Kirolbet, but we must bear in mind that, in the event of a voluntary termination, we would have to pay compensation that is not quantified. They could take to court if no agreement is reached. We will talk about what the sovereign body (the club membership) wants,” said Sabalza.

Club CEO Fran Canal said that they had already made a number of compromises including removing Kirolbet’s logo from its age group teams and he said that next year the fans can buy the club shirt without the Kirolbet logo on it.

“41 of the 42 teams that make up the Professional Football League (LFP) have this type of sponsorship. This board of directors will sit down with Kirolbet to address a possible exit and termination of the contract,” said Canal.
