December 18 – Manchester City has launched a dedicated channel on YouTube Kids, the first football club to do so. The channel will feature City-themed children’s content aimed at an under 12 audience.
Content will include behind the scenes videos and a weekly magazine show called ‘Xtra Time’ where presenters discuss City’s week on and off the pitch, alongside match highlights and bespoke short-form content.
Nuria Tarre, chief marketing officer for City Football Group, said: “We want to continue to push boundaries beyond our existing platforms to reach new audiences and as YouTube Kids is the number one video platform for children, it feels like the right place to share our content. We strongly believe in creating safe and certified environments for children online and YouTube Kids offers a trusted way for our content to be consumed by the younger generation.”
The club launched its Man City Kids app in 2018, which features videos, games, polls and exclusive competitions. It says “the new channel will provide even more opportunities for youngsters to connect with the Club in a safe environment.”
Cedric Petitpas for YouTube KIDS UK, said: “We know that kids have an enormous appetite for sports-related content and football in particular. Our team craves this type of content that encourages kids to engage with sports, go out and play with their mates.”
Man City were the first Premier League football club to reach one million subscribers on YouTube, which has had a resurgence in football club interest. Liverpool recently launched a pay option on the platform and according to research was already the top earning football club on the social media video channel earning an estimated $663,000 monthly. Man City were ranked as the second highest earning Premier League club earning $222,000 monthly. Barcelona earn $415,000 monthly.
