Libya offered CHAN spot after Tunisia pull out with clubs refusing to release players

January 23 – The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has invited war-torn Libya to replace Tunisia in the upcoming African Nations Championship (CHAN) finals in Cameroon.

The Tunisians withdrew from the tournament, strictly for locally-based African players, because clubs were reluctant to release their players.

Tunisia beat Libya, the 2014 champions, 3-1, on aggregate to clinch a place in the finals that are due to kick off in April. “The Libya Football Federation’s board of directors will study the situation and send a response in due course,” LFF member Younes El Kaza told the BBC .

When Tunisia withdrew in December, its clubs pointed out that CHAN is not on FIFA’s official match calendar.
