February 14 – A new competition for non-FIFA affiliated Oceania regions is in the pipeline according to local reports.
The tiny Marshall Islands Football Association says the tournament will be called the Pacific Islands Football Champions League and include the likes of little-known Palau, Micronesia, Kiribati, Nauru and Tokelau with the first edition possibly happening this year.
More information is expected to be released in the coming weeks but it is unclear whether the competition would have the backing of the Oceania Football Confederation.
Development of the game in the far-off region badly needs exposure. Apart from the Nations Cup, the region only has the Pacific Games to call on.
