Miserable Mourinho bemoans a break he didn’t need as Son sidelined

February 19 – Tottenham Hotspur’s South Korean international forward Son Heung-min has fractured his arm and could miss the rest of the season, a crushing blow to last season’s Champions League finalists who are already without long-term injury victim Harry Kane.

Tottenham said the highly prized Son is expected to be out for a “number of weeks” following surgery but manager Jose Mourinho says he may not play again this campaign.

Son has been Tottenham’s go-to player and primary goalscorer whenever Kane has been injured in the past.

Mourinho, who took over at Spurs in November, said the club’s injury situation “couldn’t be worse”.

“I’m not going to count on him again this season,” said Mourinho whose club play German high-fliers Leipzig in the last 16 of this season’s Champions League tonight.

“We are going to miss him. The situation couldn’t be worse. That is obvious. I was worried about not having attacking options on the bench, now I don’t have attacking options on the pitch. No strikers, no (transfer) market. Nothing.”
