March 6 – Djibouti and Mauritania will enhance their cooperation after the FAs of both countries signed a partnership on Thursday.
The partnership aims to boost cooperation between the two nations, exchanging ideas around the promotion of the game.
“The agreement covers a number of key areas including the exchange of knowledge, experience and skills, in particularly it focuses on areas of youth development, good governance, competitions, marketing, communication and technical development” said Djiboutian FA president Souleiman Waberi (pictured right).
Both countries have traditionally had a marginal impact on the African game, but they both have ambition to change that. In 2019 Mauritania participated for the first time in the Africa Cup of Nations, losing 4-1 to Mali and drawing with both Angola and Tunisia to finish bottom of their group. Djibouti have recently also taken flight under their new French coach Julien Mette, progressing to the main draw for the 2022 World Cup qualifiers. They eliminated Eswatini 2-1 on aggregate.
“I am very cheerful to welcome my brother and friend Souleiman Hassan Waberi to my office and discuss with him several issues which are beneficial to our countries” said Mauritanian Football Federation president Ahmed Yahya (pictured left).
