Burglars held Vertonghen’s family held at knifepoint when Spurs were away to RB Leipzig

March 16 – Tottenham Hotspur’s Belgian international defender Jan Vertonghen’s family was held at knifepoint as four armed men burgled his home while he was abroad on Champions League duty last week.

Four men wearing masks broke into his London home and fled with electrical goods last Tuesday while Vertonghen’s wife and two children were inside. The 32-year-old was in Germany for the second leg of Spurs’  last-16 defeat by RB Leipzig.

“We have been supporting Jan and his family through this terribly traumatic time,” said a Spurs spokesperson. “We encourage anyone who has any information to come forward to help the police with their investigation.”

The family did not suffer any injuries during the incident as police continue investigations into the whereabouts of the perpetrators.

Vertonghen is not the first Premier League footballer to have recently had his home targeted by armed robbers, with organised gangs working out where top flight players live and raiding their homes while they are playing for their clubs.
