The Premier League have awarded audio visual broadcast rights for all 380 Barclays Premier League matches per season for three seasons, 2013/14 to 2015/16, to media agency MP & Silva for the Middle East and North Africa region.
The deal covers Barclays Premier League TV rights, mobile and digital media for Algeria, Bahrain, Chad, Djibouti, Egypt, Iraq, Iran, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Syria, Tunisia, United Arab Emirates and Yemen.
No figure has been released regarding the size of the deal but top estimates reckon it is $250 million, with a lower figure of $200 million reckoned to be the bottom mark.
This is a figure likely to be slightly lower for the region than the previous deal but still at a significant level above what other rights are achieving. Underpinning MP & Silva’s commitment will likely have to be a big deal with the regions’ broadcast powerbroker in TV sports, Al Jazeera.
Richard Scudamore, Premier League chief executive, said MP & Silva would distribute the rights in a “comprehensive and innovative manner”.
Andrea Radrizzani, chief executive of MP & Silva group said “We are glad that the Premier League recognises our leadership in the market and we are looking forward to using our network of broadcasters to improve audiences of top-class English football in MENA.”
MP & Silva has rapidly built a distribution portfolio containing all or parts of the international rights for the major leagues across Europe and the US. It has an annual turnover in excess of $350 million.
The Italian company’s sales roster includes English Premier League, German Bundesliga, French Ligue 1, Italian Serie A, Spanish La Liga, Major League Soccer (MLS), Brazilian national league (Brasileirão), the AC Milan Channel and Arsenal Football Club.
