April 3 – FIFA president Gianni Infantino has said that “nobody knows” how football will have to change when it returns but that it is “going to be different”.
“We all wish that we could have football tomorrow but unfortunately it’s not possible and nobody in the world today knows when we will be able to play like before,” Infantino told Conmebol chiefs via video link.
“Our world and our sport is going to be different when we return to normality. We have to make sure that football survives and that it can prosper once again.”
Last week, Infantino told La Gazetta dello Sport it was possible there might be fewer competitions so as not to disrupt the calendar.
Addressing the 72nd Ordinary Conmebol Congress, he stressed: “It is very important that football follows the instructions of the health authorities and governments, and it is very important that football gives a good example, because it’s clear that no match is more important than a human life.”
