English FA takes FIFA back to CAS over CHF350k fine in Chelsea child trafficking case

May 14 – The English Football Association is taking FIFA to sport’s highest court in relation to the two-window transfer ban slapped on Chelsea that was halved back in December.

The case – listed as ‘The Football Association v FIFA’ on the Court of Arbitration for Sport website – will be heard on June 26.

In February 2019, Chelsea were handed a two-window transfer ban and a fine after being found to have seriously breached rules regarding to the registration of players under the age of 18.

At the same time, the FA was fined as part of the verdict that resulted in Chelsea being punished because player registrations are processed at federation level. It was warned by FIFA that it had six months to “address the situation considering the international transfer and first registration of minors in football.”

When Chelsea’s sanction was reduced by CAS, the FA saw its fine of CHF 510,000 lowered on appeal to CHF350,000 Swiss francs but not thrown out.

At the time of its original sanction, the FA said it had “co-operated fully” with the investigations but has now escalated the case to CAS challenging FIFA’s verdict that it violated regulations.
