$81,000 fine for FC Seoul as sex toys prove to be no fun

May 21 – South Korea’s professional football league has imposed a record fine on one of its clubs for using sex dolls to fill empty stands at its second game of the resumed K League season last Sunday.

FC Seoul has been fined 100 million won ($81,500) by the K-League despite insisting they used 30 “premium mannequins”, not sex toys, to mimic a home crowd ambiance to inject an element of fun.

But some of the dolls were holding signs advertising x-rated websites, despite pornography being banned in South Korea.

“The incident has greatly insulted and hurt female and family fans,” a K-League statement said, adding that the club had made “a serious mistake” by not removing the dolls before the match and damaged the 38-year-old league’s reputation.

The Korean top flight is back up and running after being delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic but like everywhere else where games are being planned, they are all behind closed doors.

FC Seoul has already apologised for the mix-up, calling it an “inexcusable mistake” while attempting to provide clarity as to how it occurred saying there was a “mix-up” with the supplier, adding that it had received assurances before the match that the dolls were not intended for sexual purposes.

After reviewing the case, league officials accepted FC Seoul’s claim that it did not know the mannequins were sex toys, but said it “could have easily recognised their use using common sense and experience”.
