February 25 – Qatar is further opening its construction doors to the world and hosting the World Stadium Congress 2013 in Doha, 2-5 June.
The meeting will bring together industry experts in the design and development of stadiums, with key executives in host countries, government and local organising committees.
The chair of the congress will be Paul Hyett, Principal of HKS whose projects include Liverpool FC’s new stadium.
Speakers will include Mark Fenwick, a partner in RFA Fenwick Iribarren Architects whose projects include the RCD Espanyol and Valencia Football stadiums and who is working on two stadiums included in the 2022 Bid Book for the Qatar World Cup.
RFA the Education City Stadium which is the only stadium to be part of the Qatar 2022 infrastructure that is not being overseen by the Qatar 2022 Supreme Committee and will be the first to incorporate the new cooling technology being developed.
Fenwick is also involved in designing a new Cameldrome which will feature special 60kph train allowing spectators to see camel racing in close up.
Attendees will benefit from an exclusive live interview with the Supreme Committee for Qatar 2022 including information on priorities over the next 12 months, insights for potential tendors.
Sessions will consider the crucial legacy requirements, case studies of leading stadium projects across the globe, the cultural and economic impacts of stadium site selection, cooling system design, the importance of generating a strong media perception of the tournament and enhancing the spectator experience through the stadium atmosphere.
There will be a particular focus on achieving sustainability of sport facilities for Qatar 2022 through the Qatar Sustainability Assessment System (QSAS), a green building certification system developed for the State of Qatar by the T.C. Chan Center for Building Simulation and Energy Studies at the University of Pennsylvania in collaboration with and on behalf of the Gulf Organization for Research and Development.
Invitees include Slobodan Delic of the Sochi 2014 Organising Committee of the XXII Olympic Winter Games, Tiago Paes of the FIFA 2014 World Cup Organising Committee, Suzanne McCormack of Glasgow 2014 Ltd, Chris Eaton of the International Center for Sports Security (ICSS) and Dimitri Huygen of the European Stadium and Safety Management Association (ESSMA).
