June 25 – Promotion-chasing English Championship club Leeds United have removed a cardboard cut-out of former al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden from the stands at its stadium.
With English matches being played behind closed doors to halt the spread of coronavirus, many clubs are giving fans the chance to send in photos and placards.
But Leeds have removed an image of bin Laden, killed in 2011, that was placed on a seat for this weekend’s fixture with Fulham.
Leeds have vowed to “ensure there are no more offensive images” after discovering what happened when a fan saw that the picture of himself had been placed next to Bin Laden and posted the image on Twitter, tweeting ‘Thanks @LUFC, I am next to bin bloody Laden!!!’
